About GST Calculator
Our GST Calculator helps you calculate Goods and Services Tax (GST) for India. Whether you need to add GST to an amount or extract GST from a total, this calculator handles both scenarios with ease.
What is GST?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is an indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It replaced multiple cascading taxes like VAT, excise duty, and service tax. GST is a destination-based tax collected at each stage of the supply chain.
GST Components
- CGST (Central GST): Tax collected by the Central Government
- SGST (State GST): Tax collected by the State Government
- IGST (Integrated GST): Tax on inter-state transactions
For intra-state transactions, CGST and SGST are applied (each is half of the total GST rate). For inter-state transactions, IGST is applied (equal to the full GST rate).

GST Registration
Businesses with annual turnover exceeding ₹40 lakhs (₹20 lakhs for special category states) must register for GST. E-commerce operators and inter-state suppliers must register regardless of turnover.
Input Tax Credit (ITC)
Businesses can claim Input Tax Credit for GST paid on purchases, which can be used to offset GST liability on sales. This prevents cascading of taxes and ensures tax is only paid on value addition.
GST Returns
Regular taxpayers must file monthly returns (GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B) and annual returns (GSTR-9). Composition scheme taxpayers file quarterly returns.
Tips for Businesses
- Always mention GST separately on invoices
- Keep proper records of all transactions
- File returns on time to avoid penalties
- Claim Input Tax Credit promptly
- Use GST-compliant billing software
- Verify GSTIN of suppliers
Reverse Charge Mechanism
In certain cases, the recipient of goods or services is liable to pay GST instead of the supplier. This applies to imports, unregistered suppliers, and specific notified services.
